Dance & Art: ECRN at The Neo Kemetic Assemblage

Ariadna Peya from Barcelona and Sara Lännerstrom from Gothenburg (more information below) present the result of their residency as part of the exchange between several Rooftop festivals in Europe, united in the European Creative Rooftop Network (ECRN).

About the artists

Ariadna Peya is passionate about movement and creation. Being deeply inspired by the diversity of forms of body expression, created her necessity to learn different dance styles and travel in order to know how people move around the world. As an artist, having her roots in live performance, she has been working a lot as a choreographer for live shows, specially musical theatre like SPRING WAKENING and MAREMAR by Dagoll Dagom. She has her own company with her sister Clara Peya (pianist and composer) Les Impuxibles, that fuses live music and movement. She’s the creator and performer in all the company’s projects. Through years of exploration she has developed her own dance style that fuses specially contemporary with urban styles. As based on creativity it is very powerful, expressive, sensitive and has a personal touch.

“Spilling out from a constant stream of expression, Sara Lännerström’s art takes on many forms such as drawing, film, performance, installations, text, or animal costumes. “The public performance becomes concentrated nodes which in turn bifurcate, becoming new flows.” Lännerström works around recurring themes of nature, animals, the rustic and the homey, where overgrown, unruly, and erosive forces threaten order and boundaries. With enchantment and a touch of terror we are drawn into Sara Lännerström’s playful and convoluted imagination.”
Sara Lännerström is based in Gothenburg. Most recent works are KRPM and Tellustemplet, both temporary/semi permanent public sculptures placed in the big parking lot, Backaplan, Gothenburg. Lännerström is building her sculptures mostly out of recycled material such as wood, bricks or corrugated sheets.

OFFICIAL OPENING RARE

Thursday, August 11, a special art project opens in Amsterdam Southeast.
RARe dis/connect shows five art installations on five roofs. The five roofs are located in the most dynamic part of Amsterdam, where tens of thousands of new houses will be built in the coming years. The artists – with strong ties to Southeast themselves – reflect on these changes and what it means for the current residents. In doing so, they bring attention to gentrification in Amsterdam Southeast.

On August 11 at 16.00 a bicycle tour will start along the artworks, sign up here for the bicycle tour. During the opening artists will be present, there will be spoken word and you can toast with local rum from Rummieclub. Until August 28 you can visit the artworks on your own.

NEIGHBOURHOOD PARTY & OPENING KUNSTWERK GRAVESTEIN

Gravestein is changing. August 20, there will be a final party for Gravestein as it is now, organized by the residents’ association.

Artist Chimira Obiefule and spoken word artist Shaneegua Flechsig base their work on interviews they have had with residents of this neighborhood in recent months. They translate the community’s sense of home into a two-dimensional artwork. The facade of the apartment building Gravestein (one of the last original honeycomb-shaped apartments in the Bijlmer) is transformed into a visual collage combined with poetry.

Besides that there will be DJ’s spinning, a band present, there’s of course a lot of delicious food. We will provide a toast during the opening of this new artwork in the presence of the artists. The artist will also recite the poem, created and inspired by the stories from the apartment.
